Distinguished Bank of the Year awarded to AFB at Naval Station Great Lakes by The Department of the Navy and to AFB at Travis Air Force Base by The Department of the Air Force. AFB Recognized at the Association of Military Banks (AMBA) Annual Workshop August 28-31, 2022. Innovations such as AFB’s HERO and Access Loan Programs offer advantageous financing options for military personnel and the opportunity to establish roots.

LEAVENWORTH, Kans. (August 31, 2022) – Armed Forces Bank (AFB) – a full-service military bank committed to serving those who serve since 1907 – has been named “Distinguished Bank of the Year” for 11 of the last 12 years. The Department of the Navy recognized AFB at Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois and the Department of the Air Force selected AFB at Travis Air Force Base in California.

The award recognizes the on-base financial institutions that provided exceptional service to the community during the preceding calendar year. In particular, AFB was recognized for its leadership in serving military service members and their families with a vast array of banking services, installation support and financial education. This year’s honorees – AFB at Naval Station Great Lakes and AFB at Travis Air Force Base – serve approximately 150,000 and 128,000 active duty and retired military, government personnel, and their families, respectively.

For the 2021 calendar year, AFB received 13 nominations combined from the three branches of service (Army, Air Force and Navy) for the award by Command Leadership at military installations around the country.

AFB was formally recognized at the Annual Workshop hosted by the Association of Military Banks of America (AMBA) held August 28 – 31 in Washington, DC.

In addition, AFB was the only bank this year to earn the Military Saves “Designation of Savings Excellence,” which also was celebrated at the AMBA Workshop this week. Of the 144 financial institutions eligible, only one bank – Armed Forces Bank – and five credit unions were recognized. AFB is fortunate to have been honored with this designation for nine out of the last 10 years. The coveted honor highlights banks and credit unions that made an extraordinary effort to promote positive saving behaviors and took actions to improve the financial stability of those in their community. The Military Saves program is coordinated by the non-profit Consumer Federation of America and is designed to help service members and their families save money, reduce debt and build wealth. It is the nation’s only award focused on helping Americans improve their financial stability.

“We are honored to have received both awards over the course of many years, which reflect our steadfast commitment to meeting the distinct needs of military service members and their families,” said Paul Holewinski, CEO of Armed Forces Bank and Dickinson Financial Corporation. “No matter where they are stationed or deployed around the world, AFB strives to provide the best banking solutions and financial advice.”

With a constant focus on innovation to help military clients effectively manage their finances no matter where they are around the globe, AFB now offers both the HERO and Access Loan Programs. These programs offer advantageous financing options for military personnel and the opportunity to establish roots:

  • New HERO Home Loan available in all 50 states offers $0 lender origination fees and borrowers only pay third-party closing costs.
  • New Access Loan available 24/7 with a user-friendly application that puts borrowers in the driver’s seat for payment flexibility and immediate funding for loans from $750 to $15,000.
  • To be even more accessible, AFB is now available via Instagram and offers sage financial advice on its “Militarily Speaking” podcast.

AFB’s recently launched Militarily Speaking podcast shares stories and offers insights about financial practices, as well as strategies to help service members get ahead. The podcast discusses military benefits members should take advantage of to become more financially independent. Topics delivered by representatives from a wide array of organizations offer unique perspectives and relevant programs that support the military community. The guests highlight resources that help service members prepare for important milestones, such as Permanent Changes of Station (PCS) moves and the eventual transition to civilian life.

“As our military customers’ unique needs evolve, we are continuously working to stay on the leading edge of providing accessible, convenient and effective service,” said Tom McLean, SVP and Regional Military Executive for Armed Forces Bank. “We consider it an honor to serve active and retired military service members and their families, all of whom are dedicated to serving our country.”
